MALAWI ON GENDER BASED VIOLENCE

Kaliati taking part in dealing with gender based violence

In the past, parents assumed that the destiny of there daughters was to get married, have children and being committed to their husbands and society. Women were not allowed to take part in controversial issues like politics and other important positions.

It has come to my surprise that effort to deal with gender based violence began in the 1980’s as late president Kamuzu Banda introduced a program called The National Gender Policy. This dealt with legal rights of women, raised the awareness of gender matters and empowering women economically.

We can appreciate the effort of the Non-governmental organisation like FINCA LinkedIn.com/company/finca-microfinance-bank-ltd and the government itself in dealing with the act.

The extent of gender based violence before can not be compared with the present scenario and we can witness Women taking part in political and other essential positions.

We need to be wise and realize that what men can be most, Women can do it better and all this start with mindset change towards Women.

FOREX IN THE COUNTRY

The Reserve Bank of Malawi has cleared itself on forex implication during a meeting with Public Account committee of parliament.

The governor of the Reserve Bank of Malawi (RBM), Wilson Banda during an interview said RBM has bought about 20 kilograms of gold from small scale miners at K900 million. These remarks were made as he was summoned to explain the operation of the export development fund to the public committee of the parliament.

He further said that the forex will be kept by the RBM as national treasure. Speaking to the deputy governor, Grant Kabango says it is not the duty of the RBM to generate forex but to manage it on foreign exchange.

Kabango however said there are a lot of institutions that the market have the ability to generate forex and not RBM and RBM has the role to manage the forex.

GIRL-CHILD EMPOWERMENT

The government of the Republic of Malawi and some stakeholders are making more effort to help in promoting GIRL-CHILD education.

These remarks have been made following the recent University selection that shows the drastic increase of the percentages of girls, who are eligible to study in public universities as compared to last year.

Consequently, this new development draws a picture of how the government is fighting hard in Making sure that girls acquire quality education just like boys.

CHAKWERA PICKS CHAKAKA AS AG

President Lazarus Chakwera has appointed Thabo Chakaka Nyirenda as a new Attorney General after government terminated contract of the former Attorney General Dr Chikosa Silungwe on July 21 this year.

According to a statement signed by Secretary to the President and Cabinet, Zanga Zanga Chikhosi says the appointment is with effect from August 21, 2021.

This follows a public outcry on Chakwera’s delay to appoint a successor for Sulungwe citing that vacant AG in office contravenes legal operations of the government.
